Brandon to Pelican Rapids, Minnesota

I returned to my campsite after shooting the sunrise over Little Chippewa Lake and found a visitor. Mr. Chippy Chipmunk sat pretty at the base of the old oak tree spinning the core of last night's red pepper madly between his front paws as if trying to decide where to start gnawing. I guessed he was the destroyer of the grocery trash bag I hung on the picnic table with a stick. He made a mess but he was entertaining now.
"Pretty tasty, eh?" I said. "Glad you like it."
As I cleaned up he did not pause in his spinning.

When you catch a glimpse of pelicans dancing a take-off across water next to the bike path, you realize you're not in Kansas anymore.
From my B'76 journal:
6/6/76
Got another flat today riding to Baker. Faulty tube--oh well. The day's ride was nice but we had a long climb over Dooly Mountain and I made it all the way without walking! We saw a bull on the road just like on the commercial for beer. We stayed at a Bike Inn for the first official time and had dinner at the Salvation Army. Strange--all these old people sitting around eating. All the bikers had to stand up and tell where we were from. It was ok though!
Funny to think that now I'm of the age to eat at our senior center--the Ogemaw County Commission on Aging. Training for my 2016 adventure, I rode my recumbent to the center many Tuesdays for our afternoon bridge club--about a 30-mile round trip.
We've missed our card-playing friends during the Covid-19 shutdown. Thanks to the efforts of Andy, some of us meet on Zoom to play virtually, using BridgeBase.com online. It's not quite the same but it's better than nothing. And we've been playing more bridge than ever.
